Pediatric Chiropractic

We believe that babies deserve a strong start.

Pediatric chiropractic care is an important field and one that many parents are realizing is an important part of their child(ren)’s overall health. As adults, we understand the effect that stress can have on our bodies, but we also need to appreciate that babies also endure life stressors (they just may be a little different than our own). Pediatric neuro-musculo-skeletal (nerves, joints and muscle) care is important so that issues can be addressed early instead of leaving it too late into adulthood. We should be giving our babies the same spinal care attention as we do for ourselves.

Spinal stress in your baby can manifest itself as irritability, excessive crying, colic, torticollis headache, movement disorders or imbalances, local discomfort, delayed milestones, or spinal abnormalities such as scoliosis to name a few.

Pediatric Spinal Development

Right from birth our baby’s joints can become out of alignment and less mobile when put under stress, however, generally it goes unnoticed until the child reaches adolescence or even an adult when the pain starts to manifest. This spinal stress may also cause nervous system stress to the body interfering with the baby’s ability to experience life to the fullest. Due to the cartilage nature of the baby’s bones (not hard osseous bone like adults), cranial bones can mold in-utero or in the birth process creating flat spots or unevenness in the head of face. This may cause undo stress to the tender covering of the child’s brain.

Chiropractic care of the pediatric patient is unlike that of the adult. Because the delicate spinal and cranial bone structure in a baby differs from that of the adult, “adjustments” to the spine and treatments to the skull are more gentle and non-forceful. Our Chiropractors are extensively trained to treat your child’s spine and cranial bones.
